Expanding the Condor Enclosures at Hacienda Zuleta

Donation protected
The Galo Plaza Lasso Foundation at Hacienda Zuleta (FGPL, Spanish acronym) is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 by the family of the Ecuadorian statesman and President Mr. Galo Plaza Lasso.

Based in the historic Hacienda Zuleta, the FGPL's mission is to promote, develop, and execute conservation, education, and socioeconomic activities to improve the livelihoods of the Zuleta and surrounding indigenous communities.

Condor Huasi, our conservation center at Hacienda Zuleta, is Ecuador's only captive condor breeding operation. We are proud to have two breeding pairs: Coya and Tarishka and Ayu and Inti. Over the past eight years, we have helped to nurture a number of their respective chicks, who have grown into beautiful juveniles, and, when possible, have sent them to other rescue centers, part of the National Condors Group.

However, for our program to continue successfully, we need to provide a larger enclosure for our pairs before their upcoming breeding season. This will help reduce tension between the couple and, therefore, increase the survival odds of their future offspring.

In addition, we plan to build a new enclosure for the juvenile condors who will continue to call Zuleta home. The expanded enclosure project is estimated at $17,500, and we need your help to make it happen. These improvements will have a tremendous impact on continuing to support our conservation efforts for this iconic and endangered Andean species.

Over 2,000 people visit the center annually, including elementary, high school, and university students and national and international visitors staying at Hacienda Zuleta.

For donations of $500 or more, a hand-painted wooden leaf with your name or company name will be displayed on our donor tree at the Condor Huasi - a sample can be seen here.

For donations of $1000 or more, your name and logo will appear on a bronze plaque to be placed in front of the new enclosure on opening. A sample can be seen here
