Expenses for Harmon Family
Donation protected
On Father's day John was rushed to the emergency room with a fever, shortness of breath, and pain. He was tested for Covid, had X-rays, EKG, and bloodwork. The X-rays showed pneumonia in both lungs, and he was sent home with prescriptions for treatment. Heather was unable to return to work until the Covid tests came back, which did on Tuesday, and were negative.
His condition didn't improve and on Wednesday he started to cough up blood. Heather left work to take him back to the ER. This time they did a CT scan and found that he had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot) in his right lung. At this point it was decided to send him by ambulance to Borgess in Kalamazoo. They continued to give him medication and try to stabilize his stats, but nothing was working.
After seeing several specialists they decided he needed surgery to remove the clot. The doctor was very clear on the risks and this procedure included going through John's already compromised heart to his lung. The surgery was scheduled for Friday June 25th, and after 2 hours was successful at removal. They won't know the full extent of the damage for a while, but his care will continue.
Yesterday, June 28th, they decided to do another CT scan since he still isn't showing signs of improving. The results revealed that the pneumonia is solidifying. He will have a chest tube put in to try and drain, but if that does not work he will have to have surgery again.
More results from bloodwork have also revealed that he has Antiphospholipid syndrome which is extremely rare. This is something he will have for the rest of his life, and will have continued care, medications, doctor visits, etc. .
During all of this Heather has hardly left his side, which is no surprise if you know her. She will likely have to take FMLA as they do not know when he will be leaving the hospital. Not to mention all the times she will have to take him to appointments and be there for general care. Their children have been staying with family as well which I know they are both grateful for.

Many have asked what they can do to help, so we created this campaign to donate should you be led to. John, Heather, Brynn, and Dom appreciate all the prayers and support more than you know. Easing just a part of the financial strain will help them to focus on John.
