Expenses for Keren Calderon "Brain On Fire"

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Matt Zajac. Keren Calderon's friends and family at Scott Clark Auto Group are trying to help raise money
for her extensive medical expenses.

Keren has been hospitalized since May 18th. She was on the way to the beach with her husband, Pete Acree, and their
daughter, Lina, when Keren started having seizures followed by memory loss, confusion, psychotic episodes, and
hallucinations.
She was seen at multiple hospitals and by numerous doctors and specialists before being permanently hospitalized at
CMC Main in Charlotte.

The doctors have since diagnosed Keren with anti-NMDA encephalitis, a recently discovered autoimmune disease that
is still being researched.

The movie "Brain on Fire" depicts this disease and what life is like while dealing with it.

The doctors found a teratoma, a tumor on the ovaries that sends poison to the brain, causing the disease. Keren had
surgery to remove the teratoma tumor and drain two other cysts. The doctors anticipate at least 2-3 weeks before any
significant improvement, followed by 3-6 months of therapy and healing. She is currently undergoing treatment to relearn how to speak, swallow, and eventually walk.

Keren is currently being evaluated for a new medical study that is taking place at Wake Forest Medical.

Keren is a stay-at-home mom, taking care of her 3-year-old daughter, Lina, while Pete works full time at Scott Clark
Toyota. Her mother and Pete are alternating nights and days staying with her in the hospital while Pete comes to work.
Pete's parents are currently caring for Lina while Keren is in the hospital, and Pete continues to work to support the
family.

We are asking for any help to alleviate the financial burden being put on the family during this extended recovery.

There is still a long way for this amazing family to go! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated during this time.
