Hi my name is Candace 2 1/2 years ago I adopted Rocky from a pitbull rescue. He had a loving home but unfortunately the established family dog and him would get into intense physicals fights and it became impossible for the owners to separate the two. They originally wanted to euthanize Rocky but their vet referred them to adoption since the situation was unique and Rocky was not aggressive.
I originally thought I was inheriting a running buddy but he actually save my life. I had undiagnosed depression and fell deep into my depression one night. I thought my life was pointless and I was unloved and unsupported by the world and the people in it. The only way to escape was to hang myself and die. Late one night I created the plan in my head, found rope long and strong enough to hold me, then I had set everything up for me to kill myself. As I wrapped the rope around my neck and was screaming at God that this was all his fault, I looked at my dog Rocky quickly. He was laying on my bed, staring up at me as, I felt as if he was trying to figure out how he would survive after. His only support system was about to leave him. I then thought about “how long would it take for someone to find me”. I pictured my body dangling and him there just stuck in this garage with my dead body looking at me. I immediately knew I couldn’t put him through that trauma and did not go through my plan.
Rocky save my life and I owe everything to him.
Currently we have been dealing with a mysterious paw issue. Since June 2021 I have taken him to 6 animals hospitals, 30 veterinary visits and have spent $4200. His pet insurance has maxed out and we still had no answer to what has been wrong with his paws. We finally got an impossible appointment with a highly recognized pet surgeon in Tustin. He immediately knew what was going on with Rocky and gave us a treatment plan and a $6000 price tag for his surgery. He needs one toe removed and his webbing on his feet to be removed and the toes to be stitched together. Rocky has wide flat feet which cause objects to pierce through the bottom of his paws and create infections, which is why his feet swell up.
I have drained out everything I have, sold almost every piece of furniture and picked up Lyft driving but it is nowhere close to where I need to be. I am asking for the help of my friends, family and the public for anything.

He has had a different diagnosis from each veterinary and unfortunately has undergone unnecessary medical procedures. Choose to change his narrative. He has fallen victim to countless hours at the emergency room, months of experimental antibiotics and a unsuccessful experimental surgery.

The worse night, Rocky went to 4 hospitals that night and the veterinarian at the first hospital suggested he truly believes it’s cancer and that we should find someone immediately to amputate. He did wanted a CT Scan to prove it but we kept being misinformed as which hospital had this equipment. We did find somewhere a few days later and paid $2000 for the results to tell his to continue with further testing and they did not find anything significant in the CT scan.
