Expenses of living for Roger Phelps as he fights Leukemia...
As many of you may know or heard, Roger was diagnosed with an aggressive and serious form of Leukemia in March 2020.
Roger left Bay City in July for a bone marrow transplant and the long recovery process where he is required to live within a short distance to his specialist and hospital in the Detroit area, with the goal of returning home in October. His bone marrow transplant was very successful and Roger was on the mend, but fell ill with pneumonia just a few weeks after. Since then, Roger had to be placed on a vent and sedated as he recovers from this set back.
Roger left Bay City in July to go through the surgery and the recovery process. He hasn’t returned home. And likely will not for a long time.
Roger and his wife, Joanne had to find alternative housing for his post-surgery recovery. His hospital provides a small scholarship towards paying his very high daily costs, however with him returning to the hospital, this poses a setback in his recovery and will most definitely prolong his stay in the Detroit area as well as adding to more unexpected fees.
Roger is a long-standing and beloved member of our community. Over the course of 4 decades he’s been a coach, mentor, and friend to hundreds of young people serving Bay City Southwest Little League. There have been so many great moments and accomplishments he has shared with the young people who have been lucky enough to know him and play for him and it is now time for us to give back.
Our goal is to provide Roger and Joanne enough money to have a comfortable living situation in the Detroit area so he can recover properly, without the added stress and worry of added expenses.
