UPDATE 9/19/23:
Thank you so much for all the support that has been given to the Shannon Family! As for an update, Will was released from the hospital and is still working through some small medical issues but is recovering very well. He has been cleared to return to school and will be fully released to resume soccer in 4 to 6 weeks. We are so thankful for all of the support and prayers!

Original Post:
On August 24, 2023, around 6 PM, Will Shannon, a U18/19 SCUSC player, was taken to the hospital by ambulance because he was not breathing. He is severely allergic to peanuts and believed he had accidentally ingested a decent quantity of a peanut substance. Will called his girlfriend for help when he could not find his EpiPen. He had parked his car at a local restaurant where he collapsed. His girlfriend and her dad found him, and they immediately started CPR and EMS was called. He had a pulse when EMS arrived due to the early CPR but was still not breathing on his own. He was taken to Viera Hospital, stabilized, and airlifted to Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando. While in Viera a chest tube was inserted because his right lung had collapsed in the efforts to breathe on his own.

It was confirmed that he did ingest a Quest Meal bar that contained peanuts and did not have immediate access to his allergy kit.
He was heavily sedated and stabilized throughout the following days. The ventilator was slowly turned down to the CPAP setting to make sure he is breathing completely on his own. With hopes the breathing tube will be removed soon and he can begin his recovery.

He has a long recovery ahead and is in good spirits. Will has told us already that he misses soccer, his friends, and playing his video games and really wants to go home!
Thank you for your support.
