Overpopulation of stray and neglected pets and pets in low socioeconomic households in Broome is an ongoing issue. the reason for this is often overbreeding because of financial inability to desex, no owners and lack of knowledge. In 2016 i started the Chrissy Carter Fund in an attempt to decrease the numbers of unwanted animals in Broome by raising money to desex. My goal was to lessen the burden on other organisations by reducing numbers through desexing, and to spare the neglect that unwanted animals suffer. We fortunately have organisations in Broome who save these unwanted offspring from euthanasia but still many pups and kittens are put to sleep or left in homes in neglected states or on the streets perpetuating the problem. In the past numbers as high as 2000 unwanted dogs per annum were euthanized by Broome shire. The sheer numbers of roaming animals is a danger to other pets and to the residents of Broome. too many times we read about a dog attack on a human on the street or a pet being mauled in its own yard.

since CCF began hundreds of animals have been desexed, microchipped and registered. The fund has now been extended for emergency flights for homeless animals to be transported to shelters in Perth for adoption where Broome cannot find foster carers.

We volunteer our time to facilitate the desexing of amorous Broome animals to avoid more unwanted pets being born and neglected, but we need another infusion of funds to allow this good work to continue so we are asking the generous Broome community for help by donating to our cause. no donation is too small, every bit helps. 100% of your donation goes to the cause.
