Following your gut as a parent can be difficult. You wonder if you make the right choices, but realizing you made a choice that saved your child’s life is another story completely. That’s what happened to my Nephew Johnny. This past Sunday evening he started to complain of a tummy ache, at first they thought maybe the holiday festivities had caught up to him and he needed to sleep and he would feel better. As the night progressed however the pain increased and worry started to set it. By 6 am he began to vomit stomach bile and his tummy was tender to the touch. By this time they knew something was wrong past being the possibility of the flu. My sister Lynn took him into the ER and they admitted him for possible appendicitis, blood tests and an ultrasound was ordered. These tests began to show that something was wrong, so a CT scan was ordered and confirmed an outcome that confused the doctors. They were looking at an intussusception of the bowel. This is where a portion of the bowel begins to telescope into another part of the colon causing an obstruction. However this is a condition almost only seen in infants. It’s was decided that Johnny needed to go to Iowa City to see a pediatric surgeon. There was some concern has to how this happened to an 8 year old boy. A decision was made by the surgeon and team that the best course of action was exploratory surgery and then possible removal of said obstruction once a diagnosis was confirmed. He underwent surgery where he had his appendix and part of his colon removed. The part they removed is being sent to pathology to determine the cause and god praying it’s not life threatening. This has left Mom and Dad to remain with their son in Iowa City for Recovery. Since this was an unforeseen event and so close to Christmas we would like to setup this go fund me to help Josh, Lynn and family with any food, gas or other unforeseen expenses. Money can be tight for folks this time of year but with your help and generosity we can help put this family a little at ease during this tough time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
