Some may know my story and some may not...
I was brought over from Haiti, my place of birth, due to needing immediate medical attention. After being treated. My mother and father, whom I have no recollection of thought it be best for me to be given to a family that could properly take care of me. In the mean time while I was in the wait for a family, I had become an orphan here in the U.S. When a family did come through, I was placed in the foster care system with them and then later I was to be adopted by that family. Unfortunately, the adoption did not happen. I eventually ended up being moved from place to place and family to family. There was another occasion of an attempt for me to be adopted by a different family throughout the family to family transitions, but that also did not happen. So, I have been in the states with no clear legal status other than being under guardianship.
I ended up here in this town of Cumberland and have resided here for 17 years so far. When I was 18, I, along with some help from friends in this area, found a status that allowed me to stay in the states without the risk of deportation.
Even before I was granted the new status, i’ve been able to complete all of my primary, and secondary education. During the new status, I had been able to graduate in 2018 with my Associates degree in Criminal Justice with using help from some scholarships, out of pocket money, and from a church that wanted to sincerely see me succeed. I currently help out some of my local churches musically. I’m also involved in some other music activities as well.
I am writing this to seek help in what has become a major immigration issue for me from the time I was brought over to the U.S to this present day. To these current days I am still at risk of deportation once this status I have is terminated which can only happen after the expiration date of the current status if it does not get extended. This situation has been on the news and it does affect the many thousands of Haitian immigrants who have the same status as me and who are fighting for the privilege to stay in the U.S permanently to later on be able to work on the process of becoming a U.S citizen. I am trying to find ways for me to stay here and to fulfill my dream career of becoming a police officer to be even more productive in society. This form of help that I am seeking starts with finding a good immigration lawyer to help possibly build a case to be able to seek avenues in obtaining permenant residency to then later on get my foot in the door to apply for U.S citizenship. We all know that lawyers in general are not cheap. With your help, I might have a slighter chance of moving up on the later of success and to hopefully one day serve and protect our country.
Thank you,
