Oxygen for Nepal
The second wave of COVID-19 virus has struck Nepal with deadly force. Every day, more than 7,000 new cases are reported and the death toll is growing. With less than 1,500 ICU beds and 600 ventilators currently available to service a population of nearly 30 million people, the health system is already overwhelmed. Hospitals are already turning patients away due to a lack of bed space and oxygen. The government estimates that an additional 48,000 cylinders are needed to meet the current demand.
Our goal is to fund the supply of at least 1000 oxygen cylinders and accompanying equipment to Nepal within the next 2 months. We will be raising funds for this through multiple phases, the first phase will aim to procure 100 cylinders within 2 weeks and reach over 400 lives within one month. We will procure the oxygen cylinders, managing the internal distribution to efficiently refill and transport them to wherever it is necessary along with preventing any cylinders from remaining idle. The total cost of the first phase is GBP 40,300.
How the money will help: The life-saving cylinders will support hospitals, isolations centres and oxygen plants for immediate emergency relief. The total cost of one 47 litres oxygen cylinder including the regulator, cannula, freight cost and distribution cost is GBP 281.62 which will save lives of critical Covid patients in various needed locations all over Nepal including Nepalgunj, Birganj, and Kathmandu and its outskirts. An additional GBP 12,138 will be used to refill and rotate the 100 oxygen cylinders for a month. All oxygen support will be provided to patients free of charge.
Who we are: Oxygen For Nepal is an initiative between the all-volunteer COVID Alliance for Nepal (www.facebook.com/CovidAllianceForNepal) and the local not-for-profit organization - Creasion (creasion.org). Merging NepSocs (https://mergingnepsocs.com) and Hamro Nepali Samaj are working in collaboration as a UK fundraising partner.
All data are acquired from the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Nepal and WHO Situational Reports.
