RVA Black Widows - Women's Football
Donation protected
My name is Liane Schkeeper and I am the secretary/treasurer for the RVA Black Widows, a women's pro-football team. My daughter Sarah played for the Sharks in Brooklyn, NY and was selected for the USA Woman's team which had the privilege to go to Finland to play against other countries, bringing home the gold medal. After moving down to Virginia from NY a year ago she missed playing and decided to start a women's team down here.
These ladies love the game and want to play. One of the problems is they do not get the backing and publicity that the NFL does. All expenses come out of their own pockets which is extremely costly. They also get little publicity because of having no backing.
Between buying their own pads, uniforms and helmets, they also have to pay for use of fields, if they can get access, and pay for coaches. All this comes out of their own pockets in addition to what we can raise thru fund raisers. This team is just starting up and looking forward to being the first in Richmond, Va.
Funds raised will be used for field rentals, fees for referee's, and traveling expenses.
The RVA Black Widows also want to use this as an outreach to younger girls.
