From the Ground Up

Regaining a sense of self confidence after suffering domestic abuse can be tough. Isolation and low self esteem are great hurdles to overcome in these situations, yet survivors need the strength and confidence to rebuild their lives and be positive role models for their children.
Art making can make a powerful contribution in the lives of these people, mostly women. It can restore in them the self-expression and confidence lost, leaving them with a sense of achievement, new skills and a new network of friends.
These women need it, their children need it, our communities need it and so does the whole of society.
This is the ethos behind From The Ground Up, an organisation in the making that aims to deliver art workshops to marginalised groups in the community to combat isolation and low self-esteem.
Your contribution will help me fund the creation of this new community art organisation and run the initial projects with survivors of domestic abuse.
You can chose to make a donation or to donate some money in exchange for part of my art installation 'Feminine, Plural' which deals with isolation and social barriers. The wall of soap will be taken down during a performance at City & Guilds of London Art School Degree Show 2019 on Saturday 29th June 2019 at 2.00 pm (124 Kennington Park Rd, London, SE11 4DJ); the soap ruins will be given in exchange for donations towards From The Ground Up.
Your donation will mean a lot to me and the many beneficiaries of the art workshops, impacting not only those who will attend but also indirectly their families with an increased sense of well-being that comes from regaining one's confidence. Besides, this organisation aims to offer newly graduated art students of CGLAS opportunities to work as tutors.
I would be so grateful to receive the funds needed to get premises and get started !
