Help save a small Black owned business

Humble School of Martial Arts is a family-owned business, and many of you have been with the dojo since he first opened his doors decades ago. You've been through the location changes due to gentrification, the new structures and classes and ultimately, every hurdle the school has had to face. You know how much Chief Master Sabu loves what he does, and you know this is what he was meant to do. Teaching karate isn’t a second job or side hustle for him, but a lifestyle, a passion and his livelihood. The dojo and the karate family means so much to Chief Master Sabu, and it is breaking his heart to find himself in this desperate situation. He's witnessed so many children enter his studio fearful, lacking discipline, struggling with self-confidence or facing other challenges, and he's also seen those very same students come out on the other side with more self-confidence, focus and kindness than one could have ever dreamed of. Traits they developed no doubt due to the guidance of Chief Master Sabu. Humble School of Martial Arts may not be considered an "essential business" but having a place where children and the residents of Brooklyn feel seen, heard and loved certainly should be an essential to everyone.
Due to impacts of COVID-19, it is no longer financially feasible for the Humble School of Martial Arts to remain at its current dojo location. Unfortunately, he lost 85% of his students during this unprecedented time and he's had to make several adjustments, one being the difficult decision to close his physical location. Given all that is going on in our community, he is afraid it could affect him permanently and have a severe impact on the community of Brooklyn. People come to the Humble School of Martial Arts as a safe haven. They receive training, can get food if they are hungry and most importantly, know that it is a safe place where they are supported. In order for him to be able to stay afloat, where he can continue to offer the same in-person training, guidance and community support we know the karate family in Brooklyn has come to rely on, he needs to raise enough funds to continue operating. Chief Master Sabu's sincere hope is that once it is safe to do so, he can open back up and as things start to return to some level of normalcy, many of the students who’ve been forced to take a break from their training will be able to return and receive the love, discipline and instruction they deserve.
Chief Master Sabu has been a long-standing pillar of excellence in New York City’s borough of Brooklyn for decades and his impact on his community is evident. Not only is he a respectable Martial Arts artist who has managed to obtain national and regional competitive ratings, winning over 700 trophies and becoming a top 5 martial arts instruction in the nation, but he has also given back to his community by feeding the homeless, helping them with housing and going the extra mile to ensure his community members are taken care of. In addition to helping those in need with food, clothing and housing, he has a reputation of helping restore one’s confidence and self image. His work ethic, along with the impact he has had on many students and community members around him is a true testament of his character and he is truly invaluable to the residents of Brooklyn.
He has applied for numerous loans made available through multiple stimulus relief packages, but was told that there just isn't enough funds to spread around, especially for a small business like his. That said, he continues to hold onto hope that additional funds will be released and provides some relief, but so far those funds have yet to come through.
In the midst of this pandemic, Humble School has been offering online live classes through Zoom and plans on continuing to do so as long as necessary.
Please help him. Your donation can help keep Humble School of Martial Arts going and help him get back to his mission, making an invaluable impact on the community members of Brooklyn and their children. Thank you in advance for whatever you can give. We appreciate it more than you know.
