Lagos Covid-19 Relief: Food, Water & Energy Access

After donations stop, what next?

The advent of Covid-19 and the associated lockdown in Lagos, Nigeria is significantly limiting the ability of local citizens to access or afford basic necessities. The EssentialServices.Fund (ES.F), a disaster relief funding platform, holds that assistance during disasters must provide immediate impact while maintaining a long term view. Disasters are often exacerbated by systemic and structural issues that traditional aid fails to address. As such, relieving only immediate and short term issues is akin to placing a “Band-Aid over a Broken Leg”. 

The intervention will  focus on critical areas that are systemic issues in Lagos with a solution that provides immediate help but also assists the community long after the immediate crisis is over. 

Immediate Relief - Target Amount Required $14,057 (12% of Target Required): The Essential Services Fund will use donations to distribute the following locally sourced items: two weeks worth of food for 150 households, two weeks worth of bottled water for 150 households, and 20 batteries for the community to share. Additionally the team will install a Solar Powered water pump to provide enhanced water access. For this phase, Liquidstar has already contributed $1182 worth of batteries and the ES.F team members have contributed $175 towards the purchase of 100kg of rice and 100kg of beans. Intermediate Relief - Target Amount Required $12,884  (22% of Target Required): After hitting the first milestone of $12,682 USD, the Essential Services Fund will seek to raise an additional $12,371 USD in donations. This phase will focus on more innovative and sustainable solutions that provide relief for 30-60 days. Included in the phase we will be the delivery of 210 higher quality and nutritious meals graciously donated by Ample ($1,100 value), a variety of water purification and filtration tools, and 22 additional batteries (20 of which have already been purchased by Liquidstar for $1,800). 

Long Term Relief - Target Amount Required $94,531 - $130,000 (100% - 130% of Target Required): After hitting our second milestone, we will focus on deploying a solution that will provide an additional 10 years of energy relief.
