Help Gavin Fight Leukemia

Gavin had been battling an illness that doctors initially diagnosed as the flu, which later developed into pneumonia. For weeks, he endured multiple hospital visits, during which blood work was not provided. After persistent advocacy, a family doctor finally ordered the necessary tests. On Tuesday, March 11th, Gavin’s mother, Lindsay, received a call instructing her to bring him to the hospital immediately. The following day, Wednesday, March 12th, Gavin was airlifted from Powell River General Hospital to Vancouver Children’s Hospital, where he was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL). Gavin starts treatment today, March 14th, and is in for a long road ahead.

At 12 years old, Gavin is passionate about hockey, gaming, and coding. He shares a strong bond with his buddies at Kelly Creek Elementary, his Powell River MHA U13A Kings hockey teammates, and sister Jordyn. Home and family are important to Gavin. Being away from them during his treatment will be difficult. Gavin is incredibly intelligent, wise beyond his years, has the biggest heart, and possesses both physical and mental strength—we know he will fight back.

Bob, who is self-employed, will eventually return to work but will also be juggling his business while caring for their daughter, Jordyn. Lindsay will remain by Gavin’s side for the foreseeable future, which means stepping away from her job. The family will need to travel back and forth between Powell River and BC Children’s Hospital for months to come.
