Vernors Ginger Ale HistoricalMarker

What is the oldest soda pop in America? It's Vernor's Ginger Ale. Vernor's started in Detroit in 1866 and is older than Coke, Pepsi, Hires, or any other American soda pop you can name.
On June 11, 2016 we will celebrate a very special anniversary: Vernor's Ginger Ale will be 150 years old!
Join us for the party at the Detroit Historical Museum. For a specific updated schedule, go to www.vernorsclub.weebly.com and select the 150th Anniversary tab.
So, what do you get a soda pop when it turns 150 years old? You get it a historical marker.
Believe it or not, there is no historical marker in Detroit commemorating the amazing history of Vernor's. That needs to change. And, there's no better time to change it than at the 150th Anniversary Celebration.
Total costs for for a historical marker from the State of Michigan is about $5000. A two-sided marker costs $3795 plus a $250 application fee. That's $4045. Then, there are City of Detroit fees and installation costs that are unknown and could exceed the estimated total.
In in the event we collect more money than is necessary for the historical marker, the funds will be donated to the Detroit Historical Museum to reimburse them for the costs of the 150th Anniversary Celebration.
The process of application, approval, production and installation of a historical marker can take a year. Our plan would be to have an "unveiling" celebration at the 151st Anniversary of Vernor's in Detroit in the summer of 2017.
But, you don't have to wait until 2017 to enjoy some Vernor's fun! The week of June 5-11, 2016 will be Vernor's Week in Detroit. That week there will be a special display of Vernor's history at the Detroit Historical Museum. A variety of restaurants will be featuring menu items made with Vernor's. On Friday, June 10th, the Detroit Experience Factory will have a ginger beer tour through some of the city's breweries. Then, Saturday, June 11th will be a day full of activities from a Poker Run, Vernor's History Presentation, author signing of the book "Vernor's Ginger Ale", showing of the film "Detroit's Iconic Brands" and an attempt to break the World Record for most pop drinkers! You don't want to miss the fun!
Your support will make a long-lasting impact on downtown Detroit. The results of your donation will be something you can visit and admire! You aren't helping just one person, you're helping thousands of people who will learn about the history of Vernor's because of your support of the historical marker. This is a project for the City of Detroit and the Vernor's brand.
My my name is Keith Wunderlich and I run the Vernor's Ginger Ale Collector's Club. The members of the club love Vernor's advertising and Vernor's history. We know you share great memories of a great Detroit brand.
Please help us get Vernor's the historical recognition it deserves by donating to the placement of a Vernor's historical marker in downtown Detroit.
Thank you so much!
