Fire Destroyed It All

Hi everyone! My name is Kala. I am a single mom of two loving young boys, Kaleb (9) and Kaden (7). Everyday my main goal is to provide a good life for my boys. I don’t have much support in Georgia because 95% of my family lives in Alabama. I was born and raised in Alabama.

Recently, I moved with my boys from Gwinnett County to Buckhead in hopes for a better education. We had a lot of problems with the school system and bullying. My boys were extremely excited for this new start at a new school. They absolutely love their new school! Both have made new friends and play partners. As a mom, my biggest joy is to see them happy. In just 4 short months, I’ve enjoyed seeing them the happiest I’ve seen them since daycare. This all changed within a matter of minutes. We were left with only the clothes on our backs; However, we are grateful for our lives.

On Friday, November 10th, 2023, I watched all the hope and faith drain from their eyes as they witnessed their new beginnings go up in flames. Everything happened so fast. I wish I understood how extreme things were upon evacuating. I would have not allowed them to see that scene.

Today, I had to explain to them how that taste of the new beginnings is no more for right now. I am devastated. Not because we lost everything in the aspect of materialism, but due to my innocent boys having to experience this type of loss caused by someone’s negligence.

I created this page in hopes to assist us in regaining some sort of normalcy. I’m asking for the help of the community to give my boys a stable shelter for this cold winter ahead of us. The holidays are around the corner. I would love to celebrate with them in peace. I’ve worked so hard. It breaks my heart to see all of that stripped from me. We moved into our apartment with absolutely nothing. I was fortunate enough to fill it with our necessities plus some. It’s gone. It’s all gone.
