Support Flood Victims in Rio Grande do Sul - Brazil

Donation protected
My name is Sabrina. As a Brazilian citizen residing in England for the past 12 years, I've been dedicated to sharing and celebrating Brazilian culture by running cultural projects such as Forró Bristol and Oca Brasil here in Bristol. We are now calling for support in raising funds for the current disaster in my home state, Rio Grande do Sul.

I invite you to stand with us in solidarity with the resilient people of my hometown, as they confront the aftermath of devastating historical floods that have ravaged our community. The recent relentless rains have caused widespread destruction, displacing families, damaging homes, and shattering countless lives throughout the region.

The floodwaters have not only inflicted physical damage but have also unleashed significant emotional and financial burdens on the affected families.

The proceeds will be channeled to local charities and utilised to provide immediate relief to those in need, including emergency shelter, clean drinking water, food supplies, medical assistance, and essential hygiene kits.

I would like to send aid to three organisations that are mobilising distribution and aid to the worst-hit communities in the region. So far, I have identified three organisations that I feel will be helping the most severely affected communities, all of whom have set up funding points.

Organisations to fund:

1. Casa de Referência Mulheres Mirabal (Mirabal Women's Referral Home) in São João, Porto Alegre, aids women facing violence, especially domestic abuse. They've initiated a solidarity campaign to assist affected families, collecting donations of essential items like food, clothing, and hygiene products at their location at Souza Reis Street, No. 132, in the São João neighborhood.

2. Pedagogia de Emergencia (Emergency Pedagogy )

This is a project that has been implemented to bring education, play and, hopefully, a form of 'lost childhood' back to children in situations of social vulnerability, extreme poverty and violence. They are an association formed of eight volunteers that coordinate training work for educators, social workers and therapists who work with traumatized children.

3. Arpinsul
Arpin-Sul is an organization dedicated to representing indigenous peoples like the Kaingang, Guarani, Xocleng, and Xetá in southern Brazil, advocating for their autonomy and rights. They've partnered with the Norwegian Embassy to sustain their activities and with Petrobrás for initiatives promoting indigenous culture. Their efforts extend to a network including various traditional communities and aim to educate indigenous peoples about their legal rights and how to address instances of violence they may face. In conjuction with other organizations such as CIMI (link here)

Your support has the power to transform the lives of my friends, family, and all those striving to rebuild from the ground up. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings hope and assistance to those who have lost everything.
