Connor's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Renee and I'm trying to raise funds to help dear friends of mine whose lives have been rocked in one day with one test and one diagnosis. Their son, Connor, was recently diagnosed with a rare medical condition called Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome, SMAS. As they stated, "Seeing your child sick is the most difficult thing in the world, not being able to help them, relying on the opinions of the doctors." While we're thankful Connor is finally home after an extensive hospital stay, they will be traveling a lot for doctor visits and testing and these expenses accumulate quickly. Their lives will look different now, but they are thankful for every moment they have together.
For those who have never heard of SMAS, it is a digestive condition that occurs when the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) is compressed between two arteries (the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery). The compression causes partial or complete blockage of the duodenum. Symptoms vary based on severity but can be severely debilitating. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, fullness, nausea, vomiting, and/or weight loss. SMAS typically is due to loss of the mesenteric fat pad (fatty tissue that surrounds the superior mesenteric artery). The most common cause is significant weight loss caused by medical disorders, psychological disorders, or surgery. In younger patients, it most commonly occurs after corrective spinal surgery for scoliosis. Delays in diagnosis may result in significant complications.
We are hopeful Connor's condition was caught in time to be able to treat him properly and give him a good quality of life. This family means so much to us and they were there for our family when we faced a huge medical crisis. They are truly good, honest folk who stood in the gap for us and we pray the community can rally around them and help in any way feasible. They need help, encouragement, and hope. Please consider donating to ease the burden of medical expenses so they can focus on getting Connor well and getting him the treatment he needs.
