Tim’s treatment at Fred Hutch Cancer Center
Donation protected
In November I was diagnosed with a rare blood disease called aplastic anemia. The condition causes the bone marrow to stop producing red blood cells, while blood cells and platelets. The only treatment for my condition is receiving a bone marrow transplant. Since November I’ve been able to keep my blood count up by daily blood transfusions. During this time, the transplant team at Fred Hutch has been working on locating a worldwide search for a compatible donor. In the world data base, there were only a couple possible matches, but they have located a donor in Europe and I’m on the schedule for transplant in February. Through this process, the costs have been in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and I’m not even halfway through. Fortunately, a lot of the expenses have been covered by insurance, but there are other medical, living, transportation and lodging costs that are needed to make this possible. Reaching out for help is not something I wanted to do, but one thing I’ve learned through all of this is the non financial support from all my family and friends has given me a spirit to live and confirmation that I have amazing people behind me. For that I’m so thankful. I want to go on in this life to be able to support others in a meaningful way.
The bottom line here is that I need help to get through the next phase of my transplant and hospitalization. It will be a 100 day stay with inpatient and outpatient care in Seattle, starting January 31st. I’m grateful for your prayer support and/or contributions to make this possible.
