Help Dan Fong & Family fight rare cancer.
Donation protected
Hi, we are Sam and Mitch,
We are close friends with the Fong's - Dan, Lisa and their four young boys.
They are a beautiful family who are facing their biggest challenge and need the community's support. Dan has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive cancer (just 10 cases in the world and those 10 cases are all a little bit different too).
Since Mother's Day it has already been a tumultuous road for them. Dan walked into the hospital with what he thought was a surfing injury. Within a few days he could no longer walk and had lost feeling from his chest down.
The doctors are continuing to work tirelessly and have diagnosed him with a very rare Leukemia/ lymphoma. This means he has cancer in his blood, in his cells around his blood, in his bone marrow and in his spinal fluid and fluid around his brain. To top it off they have also discovered thyroid cancer.
The brutal treatment plan has started, and Dan is showing signs that his body is responding to the treatment. He has feeling back and is very slowly starting to walk.
With a rare and complex diagnosis comes a very rare and aggressive treatment plan. This includes twice weekly lumber punctures, extensive Chemotherapy (they are throwing the kitchen sink at him), radiation, stem cell and bone marrow transplants, blood transfusions, more testing, physiotherapy, unfunded treatment plans and further research to try and cure him.
I'm sure many of you from this amazing community are wanting to help. Here is one way in which you can help - of course ONLY if feasible for you at this time. Donate as much or a little as you can, every dollar is truly appreciated.
The funds raised will help support the family and fund the various cancer treatments in Brisbane, requiring rental accommodation for at least four months and carer for that period. Transport to and from Brisbane for family to help and enable the children to visit. Flying family in from interstate and overseas to help support Lisa and the boys, as Dan and Lisa have no family in Queensland.
Also, we are unclear as to when both of them will be able to return to work.
Dan, Lisa and the boys have a long road ahead of them and any donation will go a long way to helping Dan fight these aggressive cancers.
ALSO - if you can please go and donate bone marrow, especially if you're Māori Chinese or Pacific Islander.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, from Sam and Mitch.
