Face Mask Ear Savers
Donation protected
Hello everyone and thanks for reading. Sitting at home, watching the world all go left and upside down, I wanted to do something to help. I bought a 3d printer and started doing some research. On one popular 3d printing website, they had a whole section on things to make related to COVID19. I found these ear savers and so I made a few and reached out to a hospital that my friend works at and they were excited to receive them.
I made 50 ear savers for them. Most face masks hook around both ears. After about an hour, the back of the ear where the mask cord is, becomes red, itchy and starts to ache. This little piece of plastic hooks onto the mask strings and puts the pressure on the back of your head instead of around your ears. I posted a few pics on social media and talked to a few other people across North America who are making them for their areas. I am now receiving a few orders per day for these ear savers.
With the way the economy is going, I really don't want to charge anyone for them, but I have now made over 250 and I need to buy more filament and some replacement parts. If you find yourself wanting to help, but don't know how, helping me help others would go a long way! I have changed my design slightly. Made it smaller and brought in the tabs to help make the mask a tighter fit.
April 7, 2020 I reached my goal after only 2 days. A big thanks to everyone. The demand is much higher than I first imagined and I have increased my goal from $500 to $750 to purchase another machine to double my productivity! Wish us all luck through these trying times!
April8, 2020 I reached my new goal of $750. Thank you to everyone! I will continue to take donations, but I will not change the goal again. These printers are in high demand and every single one is being flown in! I will post pictures when I get my second one. Until then I will keep printing at about 95% uptime! I am averaging about 15 minutes per ear saver. I could reduce it at the cost of having rough edges. There are still some things I can do to speed it up! Thanks again and stay safe!
