Face shields for frontline medical personnel

Donation protected
Last Wednesday, the phone at our house rang. It was a family friend who is a local physician. That friend knew that our high school sophomore is a 3D-printing enthusiast, and he was calling to ask for his help. Like medical facilities worldwide, our area hospitals and doctors’ offices are facing an extreme shortage of personal protective equipment for use against COVID-19, commonly known as the coronavirus. Our friend asked if our son could print face shields for use by medical personnel at a hospital near our home in Prince William County, Virginia.

Within 24 hours, our son and three of his friends had sprung into action and had made their first delivery of face shields and mask extenders to the hospital.

To date, these four young men have delivered 41 face shields to that hospital, as well as extenders that can be used with surgical masks to alleviate ear pain from long-term wear. They have been working long hours to maximize output and help those so desperately in need.

Because these items from medical suppliers are back-ordered for many weeks, the hospital has requested delivery of our 3D-printed items 3 times a week for the foreseeable future.  Your donation will be used to purchase the 3D printer filament needed for the extenders and the bands used in the face shields, as well as plastic, glue, and other supplies necessary to assemble the masks.
