Facility Theatre Renovation
In October 2019, after years of producing work in various basements in Chicago, Facility Theatre moved into its new home in Humboldt Park, with the dream of renovating the former machine shop into a community driven center for the arts. In February 2020 we held a fundraiser for our next production and on March 6 we joyfully started rehearsal in the space for a May production at Prop theatre that never materialized as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Like many other small theatre organizations in the two years since, we adapted and produced virtually with a sonic version of our play, Nina, held another Art Auction fundraiser and most recently completed a BIPOC reading series. We received a generous donation and with it made some improvements toward our goal of a fully functioning performance space but there is much more to do.
Without audience (Covid or not) we have no revenue and without revenue we can't make the required improvements to the building. It's a pickle.
Some of these improvements include a new facade for the building (pictured) along with a wheelchair accessible doorway, ADA approved bathrooms and a new HVAC system.
Chicago is home to many small but mighty theatre companies. There is a serious shortage of venues where this important work can be given a place to develop. We hope that ours will be one such place. Please help us with a donation if you can.
