Facing Homelessness as a Queer Guy and Abuse Survivor

Hello!

My name is Joshua. I'm a 29-year-old Black, autistic, queer man reaching out for your support in raising £11,800 to cover my rent and essential living expenses for the next 12 months. I'm on the brink of homelessness and need your help to regain stability during this difficult time.

My Story

I grew up in a deeply abusive and religious household where my parents inflicted severe trauma on me because of my sexuality. From a young age, I endured both physical and emotional abuse, which left me isolated and silenced. I recently found out that parents knew all my life that I was autistic but kept that hidden from me as a means to control me. It was my sister who told me about this two years ago.

Despite the lasting scars, these experiences shaped my determination to create a better, more authentic life for myself. Here I share more about the challenges I faced growing up. I will be sharing more videos over time.

Why I’m Facing Homelessness

In 2021, I pivoted away from being a full-time artist and began renting out my UK apartment on Airbnb as a source of steady income. It was successful for a while—at one point, my place was booked solid for an entire year. I relied on this income to support myself.

However, my UK landlord recently decided to reclaim the property, cutting off this income stream. At the time, I was living in Egypt and had been relying on a management company to oversee the rentals.

Compounding the situation, my landlord in Egypt has informed me that he plans to sell my current apartment, meaning I’ll soon lose my home here as well. Although I’ve maintained a good rental history—paying on time or even months in advance—my housing security is now uncertain.

My Plan to Rebuild Stability

I plan to move from Hurghada to Cairo, where job opportunities and networking prospects are better. I’ve identified a safe and affordable area where I can rent an apartment for around $700 a month. The total amount I’m asking for includes:
