Faith Lutheran Church Fire Recovery Fund

Our beloved building at 311 Broadway was devastated by a terrible fire on Easter Sunday. We are heartbroken at the loss of this beautiful 114-year-old structure, a unique landmark in the Port neighborhood of Cambridge. The church was built by working-class Swedish immigrants generations ago to be a blessing for the wider community. Over the years, this building has been the spiritual home to a number of congregations in addition to our own and countless faithful people, many of whom are recent immigrants: Swedish, Taiwanese, Ethiopian, Eritrean, German… For over 20 years, it has hosted a biweekly free supper ("Faith Kitchen", run jointly with our friends at Temple Beth Shalom), choirs, children’s groups, a community garden, celebrations, concerts, and lots of community initiatives. It has been a place of love, music, art, joy, spirituality, and healing.
Our hearts are broken. Yet, inspired by the love and tenacity of our forebears, we go forward in faith. We hope to restore this property to being a useful and beautiful contribution to this city in the name of God’s unconditional love for all people! We are hoping for an Easter miracle, a resurrection.
We don’t know yet what the recovery and reconstruction of our building will entail in detail, but we hope to regularly update this page and let you know. Given the small size of our congregation and its humble financial resources, we know that the cost involved will challenge us significantly. That is why we are asking for your help. Help us rebuild Faith Lutheran Church!
Faith Lutheran Church is a congregation of the New England Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and a non-profit organization. You can also give directly on our website www.faithcambridge.org and select Building Fund.
