Help Faith Spinney fight CRPS.

I am Crystal Spinney’s best friend and I want to help them during this very difficult time with their daughter, Faith Spinney. She has CRPS and their family is accumulating very high medical bills caring for their daughter.

At school on April 1, 2019, Faith was enjoying recess with her friends and her life changed in seconds. She was sitting on a bench and was struck by a soccer ball on her left knee. The pain and swelling came instantly with no idea why a soccer ball could cause so much pain, but she was in severe pain and couldn’t put pressure on her leg including her toes. They tried pain medication and ice but it didn’t help at all and the swelling continued as well as her knee turning red and purple. She couldn't walk without crutches and the pain increased in intensity as time went on. They took her to many doctors and specialists searching for answers. After many tests and specialists, weeks later, Faith was finally diagnosed with CRPS.

CRPS is Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. It’s a very rare condition that can last months or be life long and it affects limbs and can spread over time. The cause of CRPS  isn't completely understood. It's thought to be caused by an injury to, or an abnormality of the peripheral and central nervous systems. CRPS typically occurs as a result of a trauma or an injury. CRPS occurs when the nervous system and the immune system malfunction as they respond to tissue damage from trauma. The nerves misfire, sending constant pain signals to the brain. The level of pain is measured as one of the most severe on the McGill University Pain Scale. View the pain scale here:

The current treatment plan for Faith is physical therapy three times a week, hippotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy twice a week, home therapy, and nerve medication daily. She has missed months of school due to having this chronic condition, she tries to go when she can but it’s usually only once or twice a week for a few hours as she is in so much pain and has difficulty walking even with crutches. They are supplementing with homeschooling but Faith deeply misses being in school with her friends and classmates as well as riding her scooter and being in karate.

Faith’s family is currently looking into CRPS programs around the country for her to be admitted to. These programs range from $50,000 to $90,000 and provide intense treatments that will help Faith manage her diagnosis and be able to face this her whole life. Many children that attend these programs can go years without a recurrent episode.

This diagnosis has really changed Faith. She is not the active, happy-go-lucky ten year old she was before. Daily she is in tears, has panic attacks and questions why this is happening to her.  She’s unable to dress herself, walk without crutches or do the activities she once enjoyed. At night she often can’t sleep due to the pain and anxiety this causes her. This is very difficult for her younger sister and her parents to watch her endure and they are doing everything they can to make her happy and comfortable and find a treatment that will help her long term.

As you can imagine, all of this medical treatment for Faith is very costly. They really could use your help to get Faith the continued treatment she needs and to seek further treatments to help her.

We are praying very hard for her to overcome this. She is such a strong and smart girl. She is fighting very hard and she will never give up. Your support would be a huge blessing and weight lifted off their shoulders during this very hard time for them. She will need lifelong care and sending her to the specialized hospital CRPS programs could help her immensely though these programs are not covered by their insurance. They so badly want to take her to one of these programs as this would be the best treatment for her.  In the interim however, the medical bills, physical therapy, medications, therapists, music therapy and nerve blocks need to continue and any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for helping their precious Faith get the medical care she needs to fight CRPS!
