Faithful needs our help again!

Tax deductible
Faithful is a special old pup from the Humane Society of Grand Bahama that needs emergency surgery today to remove his spleen. Here is his is touching story from Tip Burrows, the director of the Humane Society of Grand Bahama.

In September of 2014, we got a call from a BTC (local phone company) worker that a dog had been hit and killed by a car on the street outside their downtown office. This dog tried to pull his dead friend out of the road but just couldn't do it. So he disappeared. To the surprise of the BTC staff that were watching, he soon returned with two doggy friends who proceeded to help him pull his dead buddy out of the road and up under a tree. His two friends quickly departed, but this amazing soul sat down next to his friend, licking and nudging him until we got there.

Once we arrived, he allowed us to place his friend's body in our van and went willingly with us off to the shelter. No one ever claimed him, so we took care of him until he found his forever home with a local doctor on Grand Bahama. He lived happily with her and became fast friends with her other two dogs and one cat for many years.

Unfortunately, she suffered a stroke a few years ago and ultimately passed away in January of 2021. The other pets had previously passed away from old age, so Faithful (also known as Wierny, Polish for "faithful") was all alone in the world again. Thanks to two different amazing fosters on the Grand Bahama, Faithful did not have to stay at the shelter while undergoing treatment for heartworm, and enjoyed his beach time and cuddles while waiting for the right family.

Just when he was literally on his way to his wonderful new home in Ohio, he was diagnosed in Florida with a splenic torsion (twisted spleen), a life-threatening condition in which blood flow is cut off, resulting in swelling and pain in the abdominal area. Faithful's surgery is scheduled for today, Thursday, March 10th. The kind Florida veterinarian is giving us a generous discount but the surgery is still going to cost approximately $2500.

Please help us give this loyal sweet senior the life-saving surgery he needs in order to live out his golden years in love and comfort! Any donation is greatly appreciated to help us offset the cost of this unexpected expense. The Kohn Foundation is the 501c3 partner of HSGB. Thank you for helping this special potcake.
