Falisha's trip to Guatemala
Donation protected
Hi everyone it's Falisha, this summer of 2017, I will be visiting Guatemala through a program called Global Visionaries. The goal of this program is to learn more about the lifestyle of many Guatemalans and how we as Americans impact the rest of the world. This program is an amazing opportunity for me to learn how to use my voice to make a change in the injustices throughout the world and about my role in the world as a global citizen. Global Visionaries is a year round program going from local training workshops around Seattle to our trip to Guatemala this summer; when a group of high school peers and I will be moving into the home of a local Spanish speaking Guatemalan family and experiencing their lives to our best abilities. The goal for this program isn't for us to go to Guatemala seeing ourselves as a charity or having pity for Guatemala and in fact it's an equal exchange of learning, growing, and sharing cultural backgrounds with one another. Every weekday we will be working from morning to afternoon in either the construction of a school for local children, reforestation, coffee farming, or in the local hospital for people with mental and physical disabilities. I can't even describe how much I'm looking forward to this program and how passionate I am about the social justice issues around the world. It's my fourth year of Spanish in school and I can easily say that visiting Guatemala is a dream come true! Any donations to help me on this journey would be amazing and I appreciate your support! This means the world to me.
Thanks, Falisha Samuels
