Fallen GCSO Sergeant Thomas A. Sanfratello

Sergeant Thomas Sanfratello died after being attacked after responding to a dispute between two patrons at one of the Batavia Downs Casino's bars at 8315 Park Road in Batavia.
One of the patrons was arrested at about 12:30 am and was being escorted from the establishment by Sergeant Sanfratello and security when the second patron attacked him. A violent struggle ensued and Sergeant Sanfratello became unresponsive and died despite security personnel, bystanders, and Sheriff's Office personnel administering CPR.
Sergeant Sanfratello had served with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office for 32 years. Tom began his career with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher on February 29, 1992. Tom was appointed as a Deputy Sheriff in 1996 and attended the Erie County Law Enforcement Academy, 88th class. He was promoted to Road Patrol Sergeant in 2007. He was twice awarded Deputy of the Year and awarded several commendations over the years. Tom was heavily involved with the New York State Sheriffs Association, Stop DWI, and shop with a cop. Tom was a Town Board Member for the Town of Alexander and also a volunteer fireman ’86-’03.
Not only was Sergeant Sanfratello a devoted public servant, but he was a deeply dedicated father, brother, son, uncle, friend, and community member. He organized an annual Easter egg hunt for the families of Genesee County Deputy Sheriff’s Association as well as the departments holiday party. His presence will be immensely missed across the entire community by thousands of lives he touched and impacted.
Tom is leaving behind a large extended family. Please keep his family and friends in your hearts and prayers.
This fund will help provide vital financial support for his 3 children (Ian, Kyla, Alexis), which he loved dearly, this fund will be dispersed by Rachel Sanfratello (Alexis' mother) for the children.
