Family Aid in Ukraine
Don protégé
On February 24th, 2022 Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his army to begin a full scale invasion on Ukraine. The world has rallied behind Ukraine, providing resources, funding, troops, and much more.
Prior to moving to Canada, Kyiv, Ukraine's capital city, was our home and for the majority of our family it remains home. Many of you have reached out directly to ask how you can assist.
It is with this message, we ask for your help in supporting our family directly impacted by Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
As of now, we are working to relocate five family members from Ukraine to Canada. They are:
Mariya: 80 year grandmother
Illia: 17 year old cousin
Yuliya: 36 year old cousin
Timur: Yuliya's 10 year old son
Lev: Yuliya's 2 year old son
(Top: Kyiv main train station as people rush to find a way out of the city. Bottom left: Border crossing at Dolhobyczow, as people wait many hours to cross into Poland. Bottom right: Family safely across the border in Poland, waiting to be picked up by friends.)
The journey has so far been unpredictable and difficult. Each of them left behind their homes and belongings, traveling with only the lightest of bags. With the help of friends residing in Poland, they are now safe in the city of Poznan. Once their visas are approved, we are aiming to fly them to Edmonton.
Unfortunately, many of our family members remain in Kyiv, and across Ukraine, including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. They fear for their safety as the country grinds to a halt in preparation for further attacks.
The funds raised in this campaign will be used to support the relocation costs of the five family members to Edmonton, as well as distributed amongst our family who is unable to leave or work in Ukraine.
Almost 30 years ago Canada took a chance on the Yushko family and we have been incredibly lucky and thankful for the amazing people that have been a part of our journey. We hope that you may be ready to take a chance on a few more of us.
We will be posting regular updates on the status of the five family members and those who remain in Ukraine.
We cannot thank you enough.
