Help with Donald's Medical Bills

Donald was in a terrible accident on December 23, 2021 and has been working on recovering. Due to the accident he was left a quadriplegic. He is unable to do the things he loved to do like helping others. On the night he was injured he was helping his friend get his truck out of a ditch. While he was securing the tow strap under the truck another vehicle hit the truck he was under causing a life changing spinal cord injury. He was taken to ECMC, where he had spinal surgery on Christmas Day 2021 and stayed there until February 2022. He was then transferred to a speciality hospital in Erie, PA that helped him wean off the ventilator. He stayed in PA until May 2022 when he was then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for rehabilitation. He finally came home in the middle of June 2022. While he was in the different hospitals, visits from family and friends were limited due to Covid restrictions and distance. Not only did he spend Christmas 2021 alone in the hospital, but he also spent Thanksgiving 2022 in the hospital due to Covid!

The family is under a severe financial hardship due to the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, paying out of pocket for therapy at Motion Project in Cheektowaga ($100 an hour), making accommodations to the family bathroom so that it is wheelchair accessible, hoping one day to get him an all terrain wheelchair which would allow him to go on the grass easier and travel trails through the woods, and other accommodations that would make his life as fulfilling as possible.

His mother is his caregiver 24/7. He needs help with even the most basic everyday things like eating and dressing. If it were not for her commitment to him, he would be living the rest of his life in a nursing home.
