#HelpCalliCrushCancer - Family Support for the Bacon (Yorke) family

At the end of September we got news that every parent dreads: our daughter/daughter-in-law (Calli Yorke Bacon) has cancer. We are at the point where we need the help of our community to keep this young family on track to fight this. Our goal is to provide the necessities for them so they don’t have to worry about bills building up and instead concentrate on getting Calli well.
The story starts with a common diagnosis – uterine fibroids that require an open hysterectomy; ok, not great news but very doable. When Calli entered surgery, the doctor returned too quickly and told Jeremy they would not be performing the surgery and an emergency biopy was ordered. The biopsy results came back showing cervical cancer (a female reproductive cancer). At this point we do NOT know staging/extent and if there is or is not spread (metastasis) outside of the cervix. Calli is waiting on a PET scan to determine what happens next. We do know that she will be undergoing an extensive radiation and chemotherapy schedule starting very soon.
Although Calli is distraught with this diagnosis, she is eager to get on with treatment and get back to work. After living in Cape Coral, Florida for a number of years, Calli, Jeremy and Hayli moved to Summerlin (Las Vegas), Nevada in 2020 for a job opportunity. Some of you may remember Calli serving you at Gringo’s, the Freight Yard Pub or Village Pizza back in the day. She also served on the Stamford (VT) Volunteer Fire Department and the Pownal Valley Volunteer Fire Department . She was the first female state-certified Firefighter 1 in our area. Calli had worked her way up through college from Emergency Medical Technician (North Adams Ambulance Service mostly [Life Saver Award], Village Ambulance in Williamstown, as well as a Bennington service) to Registered Nurse and earned her Masters Degree in Nursing passing the national Nurse Practitioner exam She was on her way to establishing herself as a medical provider and their dream of buying a house near the beautiful desert canyons, but that is now on hold. Their move was tough during the height of the pandemic and they haven’t had a chance to really establish connections much yet. They were just getting started.
Due to Calli’s physical symptoms, she has been out of work, uncompensated, for several months now. She’s, had very low blood numbers, anemia and has received blood transfusions twice so far. Her career in medicine will have to have a restart when she is recovered. With the loss of her income they have used up the small savings they had and Jeremy is doing his best to attempt to keep up with rent, car payments, utilities, co-payment/deductibles, etc., (which is impossible on one income) as well as trying to keep the household running and Hayli kept up with school and dance.
It is anticipated that Jeremy may have to take time off to care for Calli during her treatments which will further impact their finances. We also anticipate family will be traveling as needed, because everyone needs their mom when they’re sick (and homemade chicken soup). At this point we are very unsure what the future holds as to how long this journey may take. Our goal is to take as much pressure and worry off of Calli, Jeremy and Hayli as we can and support Calli’s treatment and recovery in any way we can. Unfortunately, neither Calli or Jeremy come from wealthy families and there is only so much we can do ourselves but we will continue to do everything humanly possible. They say “it takes a village” and we are swallowing our pride and asking our village to support this family so they can move forward without excessive struggle and worrying about huge debt (on top of student loan payments that will kick in soon).
We have NEVER asked anyone for help in this way before and it is not something we ever anticipated doing. Ever. Anyone that knows Calli knows she is 100lbs. of shear guts. Even when she is scared or challenged you’d never know because she rises and fights. This is the fight of her life. Displacement would be devastating at this moment in time. Every penny received will go directly to support their household expenses to keep them in their home (rental), have safe transportation, food, as well as utilities, insurances, prescriptions, etc. No matter the amount, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and will update this page as we get more information.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE *share, share, SHARE*, think good thoughts and send intense prayers.
