Cancer. How could a six-letter word cause so much fear and tears? Here's how it did for our family. In December of 2019, our family was told these words from our mom, "I have breast cancer." Those words instantly caused fear, sadness, confusion, and pain. Cancer is something we thought would never affect our lives, but now that six-letter word is always in our heads. Our hero, our role model, the person who has shaped each of her kids into the people they are today. The person who drives us to become the best version of ourselves. The person who always knows how to put a smile on our face. Our mom, who has devoted her entire life, body, and soul to raising us eight kids, has breast cancer.
For two years, our mom has been treated with chemo pills. Her type of cancer is treatable but not curable. Recently, she has undergone surgery to remove her R Breast and lymph nodes surrounding the area due to the formation of a new type of cancer. The biopsy has come back with results of Triple Negative Cancer. So what does that mean for our family? Chemo pills will no longer treat our mom, so now she will be doing Chemo and Immune IV Therapy. Immune IV Therapy is a light of hope for our family since this type of treatment did not exist a few years ago. It's a reminder that there is always hope in the future.
Cancer brings so many fears because there are so many unknowns with it. The moment you become that person who has it or knows someone who has it, you begin to face feelings that are hard to put into words. As our family writes this, we don't ask for pity; we ask for support. Support for our mom. Support for our family. Support through prayers for our mom. Support by asking questions and by learning about this change in our lives. If there's one thing we hope people take from this is how strong our mom is and how she still puts her kids first even though she is going through this. She still puts a smile on her face and tells us everything is going to be okay even though she knows this is a fight she's going to fight the rest of her life.
Overall, our family is asking for support and prayers for this new chapter our mom will be facing. Thank you to everyone who has already done so much for our family and continues to support our mom in her fight.
