East Prairie Family ‘Heartbroken’ after home burns down due to Alberta Wildfires
On May 5th, 2023, Alberta wildfires took 27 houses in East Prairie Metis Settlement in Alberta including wildland fire fighter Frankie Payou’s home. Frankie, who has been a wildland firefighter for 14 years was at the home with his 5-month pregnant girlfriend Melody Robinson and their 7-month-old daughter who only 3 days earlier had kidney surgery and was to be home resting when his brother-in-law came and told them to leave. They saw the growing clouds of smoke getting closer. Giving only half an hour’s notice. Melody grabbed what items she could for them and their three daughters and evacuated. Frankie did everything in his power to save their house. He sprayed down his home and cat guarded it, but as he left to help save another home nearby not even 15 minutes later the fire engulfed his home destroying everything.
“Everything perished in their home”. Melody said. Frankie, and their 3 children are left with no home for their growing family. This go fund me is to help give this family some piece of mind and help them to rebuild a home for their children and get through these devastating times. Melody has stated she has taken the children to find clothes through what donations have been offered. This family’s struggles have just begun, but Frankie and Melody are thankful that their family is OK. As of Monday, Frankie is still fighting fires while Melody and the children remain in a hotel. Frankie and Melody need financial assistance to help them provide a home before their baby comes and to get through what financial burdens are to come. They are thankful for any help.
