Family Homes Destroyed by Hurricane Ian
Donation protected
Hello! Connor, Gillian and I (Kayla) are reaching out for your support for our parents, John and Stacey, as well as our grandparents. As you may know by now, Southwest Flordia was hit the hardest by Hurricane Ian. This includes Fort Myers Beach, which is home to less than 10,000 people. Our parents have been residents here since 2014, where they created a home with many special memories. It saddens me to say that this home is completely ruined by the unimaginable storm surge that was to the roof. It now has to be rebuilt from the ground up.
Not only was their home lost, but also our grandparent's home, about 20 minutes inland. Thankfully, we can save their home, but everything inside was under 2-3 feet of water and needs to be replaced. They also lost both of their cars, which need to be replaced soon. My parents are the sole caretakers of my grandparents and now have the responsibility of replacing two homes.
Unfortunately, insurance and federal aid will only cover a tiny sliver of the expenses that will need to be paid in the upcoming months/year. We are so grateful that everyone is safe, but we also feel immense sorrow for our family right now. Us children, Connor, Kayla and Gillian, are doing our best to support them in ways that we can right now.
Many people have reached out to us, asking for ways in which they can help. Because they do not have a home at the moment, there is nowhere to store anything. What would be most helpful is money. This way, when it comes time for them to rebuild a few months from now, they will have money to assist. This includes everything from the cost of their temporary housing, demolition and construction/renovation costs, clean-up costs, refurnishing the homes, appliances, essential home items, and food.
We have no doubt that they will come out stronger from this and will build a home more beautiful than the last. Thank you for your consideration; we know it will truly mean the world to them during this challenging time.
