Help a dying mother and her autistic daughter
Donation protected
Englewood neighbors are raising funds to address a very tragic situation in our community. Shannon is a 22 year-old woman with Autism. Although she is very bright, she has not had the therapeutic services necessary to grow into a functioning adult. During her adolescent years, her mother and care taker, Lisa (Kelly) Jarvis was battling stage 4 breast cancer. Lisa is now in Hospice, terminally ill with the cancer that has metastasized throughout her body. As there is no extended family support, the neighbors have taken responsibility, driving Shannon to hospice, seeing to her personal needs and caring for the family pets. Unable to work, the family has been living on disability, and the house has fallen into general disrepair due to lack of funds. This fall, their home suffered severe devastation by Hurricane Ian. FEMA is helping with the cost of repair to the roof and some of the windows. However, there is a need to address plumbing issues stemming from old clogged and crumbling ground pipes and to remove a large tree growing against the house causing foundation damage. The air conditioner needs extensive repairs or replacement. Additionally, interior and exterior painting, wall repair, new furniture, washer, dryer, kitchen stove, and refrigerator are needed in order to make the house habitable for Shannon’s long term independent living goals. Sadly, there will also be a need to cover end of life expenses for Lisa. With the help of community resources, our goal is to support Shannon through the devastating experience of losing her mother and to assist her to move forward as a functioning adult. Ensuring that Shannon has a safe home environment in which to adjust to the coming life changes will be a major component of her future success. Please donate. In addition to cash, if you'd like to donate time, appliances or services that would be welcome as well.
