Grandma Killed by Hit and Run Driver

Hi. My name is Arlene Lum with the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation. We are pleading for your help on behalf of the Cheng Family, who was met with a tragic accident in Oakland.
On the evening of July 3, 2023, Tony Cheng was driving on 45th Avenue and was broadsided by a hit-and-run driver on Bancroft Avenue just before 7 p.m. According to the Oakland Police Department, they are still searching for the hit-and-run driver. Tony was with his mother, Kam Gall Cheng, and his 94-year-old grandmother. His grandmother, who is pictured above, was killed in the accident. His mother is in critical condition in the hospital, having gone through one surgery and waiting for another surgery. Tony, himself, who is disabled and has respiratory issues, is sore all over from the impact and was admitted to the hospital overnight for observation.
Kam Gall Cheng, who is a senior caretaker, is the sole breadwinner for the family. With limited family savings, she is worried about when she can get out of the hospital and return to work so she can get funds to pay for her mother's funeral and her medical bills. The family has reached out to Carl Chan, President of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation, to help set up this GoFundMe to raise some funds to help the family through this tragic event. Carl expresses sadness over this event and encourages everyone to help this family in distress with the following quote: "While they will never be able to see the wonderful smile of their mother/grandmother again, they should not have to worry about how to make her rest in peace comfortably. Please donate whatever you can to help the Cheng family through this misfortune. 100% of your donation will go directly to the Cheng family."
The Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Your tax donation is deductible to the full extent of the law. Our EIN is 37-1433643.
