Family Leave for the Yeos

Not really the post I want to be making. But I was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning. At 26 weeks and 5 days, I noticed my waters started leaking. It was just a little bit thank goodness. But my Dr checked me and discovered that I have PROM (premature rupture of membranes). This is not great. I was sent to the hospital where I’ll now stay until baby comes.

This feels impossible. The goal is for me to stay pregnant until 34 weeks. Today as I write this I am 27 weeks. The thought of being here, away from home. Away from Arthur. Not being able to take care of him the way I have for the last 22 months feels impossible. 7 weeks on bed rest in the hospital trying to keep Edwin safe and in my womb while being away from my little family just feels like an absolutely daunting task.

Nick was able to take the rest of the week off school to be with our boy. Taking care of him, keeping him happy, nourishing him. And he’s doing the most amazing job. Thankfully, my parents are arriving here today and will be here indefinitely for a bit. Hopefully my sister can come this weekend for a short stay to help get things settled for us at home.

I’m emotionally drained. I’m extremely weepy. I am trying to take everything one day at a time and be thankful for the days I get to remain pregnant as it’s the safest and best thing for Edwin.

Nicks job doesn’t have a sick leave pool for their teachers where colleagues can donate leave time to each other in emergencies. He only has 5 days of PTO time left for the year. Any time he would need to take off of work will be unpaid. As is my FMLA. We’re trying to figure out our insurance /long term disability coverage in the next few days. So I’m going to start a fund if you should feel compelled to donate. Anything that will be raised will be for nick to be able to take some time for paternity leave or days off before or after Edwin’s arrival as he will likely have a stay in the NICU once he’s here.
