Family loses everything after fire
Donation protected
On Thursday September 23, Northern Lights Equine located just outside of Smiths Falls Ontario experienced a tragic situation. A fire starting inside the walls of the home above the barn spread quickly through the entire establishment causing the owner Francis Audet and his partner Debbie Baldwin to lose everything. Fire fighters worked tirelessly throughout the day to extinguish the fire only to have the fire relight and spread further causing the fire department to have to pull down the building to help extinguish the flames. Thankfully all the horses made it out safely however their daughters beloved pets and their flock of chickens were not able to be saved.
This family is now having to start over and while waiting for insurance to evaluate the situation they are stuck with many challenges they must face, like how to house two blind horses that live on the property and for safety reasons must have shelter at night. The family is now residing in a small trailer just off the property with little to no essentials, as well as finding ways to recoup what they have lost in order to care for their herd.
This facility as existed for appropriately 60 years, and in this time has open the door for young children to discover a way of life that has built courage, strength and self esteem while building skills and encouraging goals that would last a lifetime.
Due to the seasons changing it would be impossible for this family to at minimum rebuild a home and structure before winter hits. We are asking for help from the public to assist us in helping this family and their herd, thrive while rebuilding their lives. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
