Family with disabilities displaced by storm

The tiny village of Pesotum, IL recently suffered through a catastrophic storm. Our friend Deborah (Cox) Kaden, had a six-ton tree fall on her 100+ year old house. A group of her close friends in Champaign County, IL (Geri Goldberg and Carol Ellis) want to raise money for her benefit. Deborah, a 70-year-old widow, is the primary caregiver for two disabled adults in her home. Her elderly mother is blind and her nephew is wheelchair bound with end stage multiple sclerosis. Deborah continues to work a full-time job because, with no savings or pension, she cannot afford to retire. Whatever money she was able to set aside is quickly depleted by the cost of maintaining her deteriorating house. The local fire department ordered Deborah and her disabled relatives to evacuate the premises as the home was structurally unsafe to occupy. This family will be temporarily staying with relatives and the dwelling is not handicapped accessible. One week before the storm damage, the air conditioning unit had to be replaced at the cost of about $7,000.

Although homeowners insurance will pay a good amount of the loss to the home the funds raised will be used to pay bills related to deductibles, shelter, food and other necessities

We cannot imagine a more desperate situation or a more deserving family for our community to wrap their arms around with financial assistance.

All proceeds collected will be for the benefit of Deborah Kaden and her dependents.
