Good Hope School is a primary school providing education for AIDS Orphans and the needy in the Kabale Region of Uganda. The school and these kids holds a special place in our hearts and they're in need of urgent help in a time of famine to survive in a time of inflated food prices until the next harvest. http://www.goodhopeschool.net/Home_Page.html
VISION
Founded in 2007 by a visionary young teacher, Innocent Tumuheki, the school has grown into a thriving, accredited school with over 180 students with minimal support from the west. This is a true community-led school with a sustainable model of using full-tuition students to subsidize scholarship students in need. In 2015 the school hosted their largest graduation to date with over 80 students graduating, many of them AIDS orphans and needy who would not be able to attend if not for Good Hope School's offering in their community.
FAMINE RELIEF
Unfortunately the students, their local village and the wider region are facing hunger and starvation due to a series of severe weather events that have caused crops to fail and famine to spread. There are now 1.3 million people going with less than half a meal per day. Kids can't survive, much less learn, without basic nourishment. We need your help to see them through these hard times until the next harvest. HOW TO HELP
We're raising $1,400USD / $1,800AUD) to subsidize feeding the 180 students one meal per day until end of term (June 2017).
Your donation will help the school to buy around 45 X 50kg sacks of corn meal (called posho) and supplement their sweet potato purchaes. The prices of these staples has risen by about 300% since this time last year, meaning any contingency planning for food cost inflation that they had could never have kept up.
While any donation amount will be incredibly appreciated, please keep in mind:
- One 50kg bag of posho costs $27USD / $35AUD
- They use about 25kg of posho per day so $13.50USD / $17.50 will feed the whole school one meal
