Fan Support for A's/Giants Gameday Employees

Please help Bay Area Baseball Gameday Employees
A's, Giants, and Bay Area baseball fans, I am asking you to help me support the thousands of vendors, ushers, concessions workers and many others who depend on baseball for their income. I will forward 100% of the money you donate to either the gameday workers funds the A's and Giants have set up, or directly to vendors/employees in need. For qualifying donations, I will send you autographed Hal the Hot Dog Guy baseball cards!!!
Many baseball workers, myself included, depend on the baseball season for a most of our incomes. This means the offseason is our 'lean times', meaning our bank accounts are at their lowest level at the beginning of April. The postponement of the baseball season means our jobs have vanished at the very moment when we need them most. Check out this news story for more of my opinions on this.
There will be millions of workers who are impacted by COVID-19, but the seasonal nature of baseball work means missing even a couple months will be especially catastrophic. While I have another source of income (I am a grad student at UC Berkeley), and my wife's job can be done remotely, I know many vendors and gameday workers only job is baseball.
This is why I am asking Athletics and Giants fans, especially those who can continue to do their jobs remotely, to donate just a small portion of what you would have spent this season on parking, concessions, and souvenirs to this fund. Please consider donating a portion of the money you would have spent to this fund!
As a gesture of thanks, I will mail every fan who donates:
-ANY AMOUNT ($20 suggested): An autographed 4th edition (lower right) Hal the Hot Dog vendor card. This card was only available during the Wild Card game last October, so you probably don't have it
-$50: An autographed 4th edition Hal the Hot Dog vendor card, plus one other card of your choice. I am ordering reprints of all 1st (upper right) 3rd editions, so they may take longer to be delivered)
-$99: All four autographed Hal the Hot Dog cards
-$200: All four autographed Hal the Hot Dog cards, plus a special edition Hal the Hot Dog Guy rookie card, with a picture of me from 2005 in Chicago, my first year vending!
After you donate, you should receive a google form to collect your address so I can mail you your thank you gift. If you miss this, you can fill out the form here.
More questions you might have:
Where exactly will my donation go?
I have contacted the A's and asked them if I can donate the money directly to the fund they have established for their employees . I am also trying to reach out to the Giants (many workers work at both stadiums, so a donation to one fund will help workers at both). They have not yet indicated that they will accept donations, but they are open to the idea. If they ultimately cannot accept this money, I will work with the vending union to disperse the money in a timely and fair manner. I will keep you updated with where specifically the money goes.
Wait, who are you? Why are you organizing this?
Check this intro out, first!
Since 2005, I have been a baseball vendor who has worked in Chicago, Washington DC, and since 2016, the Bay. I am also a PhD Candidate at UC Berkeley in Agriculture and Recourse Economics. I have worked on both sides of the Bay, but most people know me from the Coliseum. Many fans have reached out asking how they can help me and other vendors, so I took it upon myself to set up this campaign.
I want to help, but I kind of want a t-shirt or hoodie instead of just giving cash!
Cool! I have set up a Teespring store with some Hal the Hot Dog guy swag. Check it out here.
I am a gameday employee who wants to share my story.
Please email me at [email redacted]. I am hoping to share more stories of gameday employees who need help now.
I have more questions.
