Hi, you know me as Duff or Warren Duffy of Lost Perth.
After 28 years fencing, I have moved on the purchase a WA treasure in Pingelly where I now live. It's the magnificent 117 year old Exchange Tavern built where The Avon River begins amongst sheep and grain country.
Not much has changed since Lord and Lady Forrest visited many times and the building looks outstanding after her last lick of paint but on top of rising damp, 5 bathrooms and a kitchen needing replacing with water damage to the ceilings below, I need to replace the verandahs immediately or close them off from all traffic to avoid a tragedy or ultimately, their removal.
When hoping the Michelides Building , a tobacco and cigarette factory at 80-82 Roe Street could be saved in 2014, I was told by the Perth Lord Mayor at the time if I wished to save it, I should buy it. Well in this case I have and I aim to give her lots of love and attention.
As the mere custodian of this building, I will never regain the funds I spend on the old girl including new bathrooms, air conditioning, kitchens, TVs, CCTV, a new bar and 8 fridges but I humbly ask for your help for 3 kilometres of decking, timber posts and supports, painting, scaffolding, traffic management, guttering and downpipes and waste disposal of the timber verandahs so they may last another century for everybody to enjoy when they visit this inviting Western Australian country pub.
