**In Memoriam: A Tribute to Victor Udokwu’s mother

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Victor Udokwu’s mother who came visiting her son (single) who is a staff nurse in Ireland only last week May 26th 2024 . Tragically, she collapsed four days after her arrival on Saturday 1st of June 2024 in her son’s house (kitchen) and was immediately hospitalised after not responding to CPR and 19 shocks given to resuscitate her from home to the ICU.

Despite the medical team’s best efforts, she was placed on life support. Unfortunately, due to hospital policy, especially in cases where brain function has ceased, life support could not be continued. It was taken off on 2nd of June 2024 and She passed away almost immediately same 2nd June 2024 Sunday.

In this time of immense grief, we are also faced with the heavy burden of medical expenses. Within less 48 hours, in the intensive care unit, the bill rose to about €15,000. This amount does not include the additional costs of repatriating her body back to Nigeria which after enquiries, a rough estimate of €16,000 was obtained for transfer of her remains home. Bringing the total to about €31,000 to €35,000.
