Farewell (Despedida) - Debut Album Project

Hello everyone!

My name is Marcel Bonfim, I am happy that you are here to learn a little more about me and my new music project.

I am a jazz bassist born and raised in Brazil. I’ve been based in Chicago since 2015.

My experience of being an immigrant has influenced me and the way that I make music. Moving to the US has been life changing, it’s shaped me and it can’t stay hidden for long.

I’ve been very aware of my state of mind, contrast, contradiction and duality found each moment. These choices have become my source of inspiration.

That is how the concept of the album Farewell (Despedida) was born. My compositions and arrangements explore the double feeling about leaving my family in Brazil, while also making new connections, relationships and exploring new ways to make art.

Without any family in the US, I was generously embraced by the jazz community, who have invited me to be part and contribute to the scene. This embrace was crucial in my development as a person and as an artist.

This magical experience has been proof that we are better and stronger together rather than apart. I couldn’t be happier to share with you this important step of my life and career through these songs.
