Farewell Oluyemisi: Help Support Her Daughter and Husband

This is my mother Oluyemisi Thomas, she is a vibrant, funny, loving, and most caring woman. She is the best mother I could ever ask for and truly beleive that God made us for each other so that we can spread love to the people we come encounter with. My mother was born in Nigeria where she received her undergraduate and masters degree. She then made the bold decision to move to America and pursue her dreams of higher education, she attended New York University and received her second masters degree in International Education. My mother always believes that education opens the door for students to become the best versions of themselves and gives them so many opportunities. With this passion she works as a substitute teacher 5 days a week for the East Orange school district and she also dedicates her weekends to work with CPNJ and assists those with Cerebral Palsy.

Unfortunately on Friday night October 25 my mother started coughing uncontrollably after dinner and started foaming from her mouth and nose. While on call with 911 I had to give her CPR until the paramedics came, she went into cardiac arrest and flatlined for 20 minutes and went into a coma. I had to experience talking to numerous doctors over and over all by myself and worrying about the outcome of my mother. With her brainstem being intact she had some basic reflexes but none that were strong enough to show she will pull through. My mother fought for a good 2 weeks but the Lord is calling for his daughter. She leaves behind me, her only daughter who depends on her emotionally and financially. I am 7 months post grad from Temple University and am now pursing my masters degree also at New York University. I am now responsible for her medical bills, funeral arrangements, and finances. Help me give my mother the farewell she so greatly deserves and help me ensure that I can continue my education at NYU. Thank you, and Blessed Be!
