Farewell, Walter Chamorro:Father, Husband, Brother

As the crisis that we all are enduring ravages our country, we find ourselves staring at an ever increasing loss of life. Every single number is a full lived life that has been cut too short. Every number is a mother, a daughter, a son, a father, all with stories of their own: the connections made, the lives touched, the love given. Whether it is a loved one or a friend, in some way, this deadly disease affects everyone. Tragically, on May 2, Walter Gazbon Chamorro passed away due to the Corona Virus: he was 55.
When he first immigrated to America, he wanted the very best for his kids. Always motivating them to be the best they can be: to have the things he could never have. Having dropped out of school at a young age to work on the streets of Colombia in the 70's, at the height of the cocaine epidemic, he would ride various buses to sell fruit, in order to survive. Eventually, driving the buses that would become a cultural icon of Colombia. Working a dangerous low paying job, he adapted and survived. He had his kids in mind in every decision he made. A loving husband, he worked hard for his wife, Claudia. Always providing anything that he could to help. He loved his family and his family loved him. To the very last moments, he was a fighter. But, unfortunately, he passed away due to this illness.
