FAROE Project

This is the fundraising page for The FAROE Project run by Fauna Mountain Cat Rescue. FAROE stands for FELINES AT RISK OF EUTHANISATION.
My name is Hayley and I set up Fauna Mountain Cat Rescue to bring a future to cats in the Axarquia area of Spain who have very little hope. I have cultivated a relationship with the local pound where stray/lost cats are collected or owners surrender. After 7 days, if no-one claims the cat, it can be euthanised to make room for more and it is a constant stream, due to the overpopulation of cats in Spain. Often though, they're not euthanised for up to 30 days. It is highly unlikely that cats are claimed and so it's often a dead-end road for cats. Medical attention and comfort is not priority in a place like this, but the people who work there would rather see the cats go to homes than be euthanised, so please be kind because without their assistance, I wouldn't be able to release any cats or kittens.
Each cat costs me 39.50 euros to release and the legal requirement means that the cat must have a rabies vaccination, parasite treatment, be RAIA chip registered and have a passport, all done by the on-site vet. The process usually takes about 1 hour per cat/kitten.
I then take the cat to my vet in Velez-Malaga for a full check up and treatment if needed. Unfortunately, at times, it is a case of kindly putting the cat to sleep in loving arms and a quiet atmosphere. But mostly, the cats make a full recovery and I find permanent homes where their new life really begins, or they find sanctuary with me.
This fund is for:
- Cat release fees
- Medical expenses
- Food and litter supplies if needed
- And to subsidise transport costs to the UK in order to increase their chances of finding a forever home.
If you can donate it literally saves lives! So thank you for being here. And please share this project fundraiser, as the further we reach, the more adopters we can find! I've rehomed pound rescues in Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden, but it's also possible in other countries. Anywhere that a cat can travel on a registered pet transport bus or by flight with a guardian.
Thank you,
Hayley xxx
