Farzana Kamal

Anyone who worked at U.S. Embassy Dhaka surely remembers Farzana Kamal, former NIV Unit Team Lead. I worked closely with Farzana as the Consular Section Chief from 2011 to 2014. Farzana was a fantastic colleague, always hard-working, kind-hearted, and eternally optimistic. She was also an excellent singer, often singing traditional Bangladeshi songs, many of which her father wrote. She and her family immigrated to New York in 2018.

For as long as I’ve known Farzana, she has been fighting breast cancer. Despite getting excellent medical care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the stage 4 cancer has been relentless and has now spread to her other organs. She called me the other day and said she is currently unable to walk, and her organs are beginning to fail.

Farzana asked me to reach out to former colleagues and friends for financial assistance in her time of need. While insurance pays her medical bills, Didar, her husband, cannot work because he has to care for Farzana. With bills piling up, the family now faces financial hardship in paying rent and buying food. Farzana said any amount, big or small, would help them get through this very challenging time. She asks you to keep her in your prayers.
